{"id":13554,"date":"2021-07-24T21:10:47","date_gmt":"2021-07-25T01:10:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=13554"},"modified":"2021-07-24T21:10:57","modified_gmt":"2021-07-25T01:10:57","slug":"the-second-case-of-rabies-has-been-confirmed-in-polk-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2021\/07\/24\/the-second-case-of-rabies-has-been-confirmed-in-polk-county\/","title":{"rendered":"The second case of rabies has been confirmed in Polk County"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second case of rabies has been confirmed in Polk County, according to Polk County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Fox.jpg?resize=328%2C185&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13555\" width=\"328\" height=\"185\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Fox.jpg?w=660&amp;ssl=1 660w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Fox.jpg?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A fox that was being aggressive and trying to attack six barn cats, four horses, and two cows at a Polk City property has been confirmed to have been infected with rabies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The owner of the animals saw the second case of rabies has been confirmed in Polk County snapping at her cats in her barn on July 21, 2021, and killed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Polk County Sheriff\u2019s Office Animal Control responded to collect the fox, and it was sent to the state laboratory in Tampa for testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Friday, July 23rd, the results of the test confirmed that the fox was infected with rabies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The woman\u2019s animals are not currently vaccinated for rabies. They will be quarantined for possible exposure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMost of the rabies cases we see in Polk County are either bats or raccoons. This is a reminder that any mammals can get rabies. If you have a dog or cat, get them vaccinated against rabies. And anytime you see a wild animal interacting with your pets, contact Animal Control immediately,\u2019 said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is Polk County\u2019s second case of rabies in 2021.
