{"id":13678,"date":"2021-07-28T23:53:22","date_gmt":"2021-07-29T03:53:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=13678"},"modified":"2021-07-28T23:53:34","modified_gmt":"2021-07-29T03:53:34","slug":"white-evangelicals-resist-the-covid-19-vaccine-most-among-religious-groups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2021\/07\/28\/white-evangelicals-resist-the-covid-19-vaccine-most-among-religious-groups\/","title":{"rendered":"White evangelicals resist the COVID-19 vaccine most among religious groups"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nearly one-quarter don\u2019t want shot, a new study finds, and church leaders face hurdles persuading them<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/evang.png?resize=318%2C209&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13679\" width=\"318\" height=\"209\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/evang.png?w=579&amp;ssl=1 579w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/evang.png?resize=300%2C197&amp;ssl=1 300w\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than six months into the country\u2019s Covid-19 vaccination campaign, evangelical Christians are more resistant to getting the vaccine than other major religious groups, according to newly released data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some 24% of white evangelicals said in June they wouldn\u2019t be vaccinated, down from 26% in March, according to a study from the Public Religion Research Institute, a nonpartisan group that studies the intersection of religion and public life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Evangelicals of all races make up about one-quarter of the U.S. population, and health officials say persuading them to get the shot is crucial to slowing the spread of the Delta variant fueling recent increases in Covid-19 cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The percentage of white evangelicals who say they have been vaccinated or plan to get the shot as soon as possible was 56% in June, up from 45% in March.
