\n\nA former member of the Southeastern University baseball program has signed a Major League Baseball contract. Former catcher Willie Estrada<\/a> (19′) has signed with the Philadelphia Phillies of the National League. Estrada is the sixth former Fire student-athlete to ink an MLB contract in the last two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Estrada played his lone season at Southeastern in 2019, helping guide SEU to a second-straight Avista-NAIA World Series appearance and a fifth-place finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kissimmee native was an NAIA Gold Glove recipient following the conclusion of the season, earning recognition as the top defensive catcher in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the course of 46 regular-season games and conference tournament games, Estrada recorded just two passed balls as the backstop of the Fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 436 chances, the Kissimmee native recorded 398 putouts, 35 assists, and committed only three errors for a .993 fielding percentage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, Estrada threw out 12 runners in 24 stolen base attempts when he was behind the plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the plate, Estrada belted .353, recording 10 doubles and nine home runs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We’re extremely excited for Willie and this new opportunity. It’s been a dream of his and we’re happy to see it come true,” shared SEU head coach Adrian Dinkel<\/a>. “We knew he was good enough to play at that level and we’re excited about his future.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
