Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd is facing COVID-19 at work and at home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that nearly 50 of his deputies currently have COVID-19 and at least four of them are hospitalized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis COVID is running like a raging wildfire,\u201d Judd said. \u201cThe\u00a0overwhelming\u00a0majority of\u00a0everyone\u00a0in the community in the hospital doesn\u2019t have\u00a0the shot.\u00a0It\u2019s just terrible.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judd said he and his wife, Marisa, were vaccinated \u201cthe moment I was eligible. And I got Moderna. Marisa and me. And I highly recommend every adult getting the vaccination. And I have sent out those notices encouraging all the members of the sheriff\u2019s office.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Judd, the most well-known Republican in Polk County, said he will not mandate the shot or masks for his employees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0a personal decision for them whether they get it or not,\u00a0but I highly\u00a0recommend\u00a0they do,” Judd said.\u00a0“I have not and I will not mandate it. It has to be a personal decision, but people are dying from\u00a0COVID. This is a real and serious virus.\u00a0I truly believe that the vaccine is\u00a0a life-saver from the virus.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the morning phone call, Judd said three of his 13 grandchildren were at the doctor getting tested for COVID, adding that four of them have already had the virus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
