<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nIn order to make it to the World Championships, Katchalova had to participate in three qualifying competitions with the last one being nationals. The national competition was held in June in St. Louis, where the Olympic trials were held. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This will be Katchalova\u2019s first time competing in the World Championships. She will present the judges with a power tumbling routine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am very excited to go, but I am nervous to compete,\u201d Katchalova said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gymnastics runs in Katchalova\u2019s family, as her mother and grandparents are also gymnasts who have performed in circus shows. Now her mother, Kristina Muzzarelli, is her coach. To balance the coaching and family relationship Katchalova and Muzzarelli have a \u201cleave it at the door\u201d policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very hard, but we try to leave things at the door. Whatever happens at the gym stays at the gym. Whatever happens at home stays at home,\u201d Muzzarelli said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When Katchalova has spare time from the school and the gym, she enjoys outdoor activities with her family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cShe\u2019s your little hillbilly Florida girl. She likes to fish, hunt, go on the boat and go on the beach. She\u2019s a little country girl,\u201d Muzzarelli said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After high school, Katchalova is looking to expand her career to the medical field. She is currently a junior participating in the Health Academy at Lake Gibson Senior High School in Lakeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m working toward going into the medical field. But I have the option if anything goes downhill, I know I have my family business to come back to,\u201d Katchalova said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Katchalova\u2019s family is behind her decision to enter the medical field. They want her to have more opportunities than they had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m encouraging her to go to school. I didn\u2019t have that opportunity when I was her age. Things didn\u2019t add up for me to go to college. We are encouraging her to go to college and then if she wants to come back to the gym she can. Her going to the medical field goes hand in hand with the things we do at the gym,\u201d Muzzarelli said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Katchalova will represent Team USA in Azerbaijan. Being a member of Team USA is being a part of an extended family for Katchalova. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s fun. You meet a lot of people,\u201d Katchalova said. \u201cWhen we go out and compete, everyone on Team USA is cheering for you.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
To prepare for the competition, Katchalova trains four days a week at her family gym Elite World Gymnastics in Lakeland. Before heading to Azerbaijan, Katchalova will attend a camp in New Jersey in October. Katchalova and Team USA will fly to Azerbaijan from New York as a delegation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
