In a gritty effort, the No. 3\nSoutheastern University women’s soccer team earned its first win of the 2019\nseason. A second-half score by junior forward Aisha Solorzano<\/a> helped earn\nthe Fire the 1-0 victory over the Evangel University Crusaders.
\n
\n“I am proud of the girls because they overcame. I\nthought we were very good in the second half,” shared head coach Randy Belli<\/a>. “We scored a\nvery good goal. I think we should have had a couple more goals, but to come on\nthe road and play with one day rest after a double overtime game, you have to\nbe happy with that.”
\n
\nThe Fire created chances from the onset of the contest,\nopening up the first 15 minutes of action with four unanswered shots.
\n
\nSoutheastern continued to create more chances than Evangel.\nHowever, the Fire failed to finish their efforts, outshooting the Crusaders\n11-2 in a scoreless first half.
\n
\nAfter outshooting EU 5-1 top open the second half, SEU\nfinally broke through in the 68th<\/sup> minute.\nSolorzano received a beautifully played ball in the box from senior forward Uchenna Kanu<\/a>, which she\nrocketed into the back of the net. The score was Solorzano’s first of the\nseason.

\nSophomore goalkeeper Holly\nEddins<\/a> was a perfect 5-5 on saves in the shutout.
\n
\nOn the match, the fire outshot the Crusaders 23(6 SOG)-5(4\nSOG) and earned eight corner kicks to Evangel’s two.
\n
\nUp next, Southeastern returns to Lakeland for consecutive\nmatches. The Fire will host No. 16 Northwestern Ohio in their home opener at\nthe SEU Soccer Complex on Monday September 2 at 7:30 p.m.
