No charges will be filed against the academy\u2019s leadership, according to the state\u2019s attorney\u2019s office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report shows Wood had a \u201chistory of passing out and having seizures,\u201d and became ill and started vomiting the night before she died on May 19, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cShe\u2019s been sick. She\u2019s been in, like, she didn\u2019t go to school today. She\u2019s been in bed sick but has, like, rolled off of the bed and her lips are white and it doesn\u2019t look like \u2013 her chest isn\u2019t rising,\u201d staff member Lauren Delfrate told a 911 dispatcher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The dispatcher directed staff through chest compressions until first responders arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A report from the Florida Department of Children and Families stated Wood had first complained of chronic stomach pains in April 2020. According to the report, rather than contacting a doctor, staff at the academy gave her Pepto Bismol 20 times as the symptoms persisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cStaff members made the child get up for meals and fed her soup, as that is their protocol when children are sick. They also prayed for her to get better. Facility staff did not seek any medical attention for the child until she was found in her room unresponsive,\u201d the report reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.myflfamilies.com\/childfatality\/reports\/2020-145076.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DCF report<\/a>&nbsp;included verified findings of \u201cinadequate supervision and medical neglect\u201d at the academy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sheriff\u2019s office death investigation report does not mention reports of illness prior to May 18, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe feel very strongly that they were negligent,\u201d said Glenn Goldman, the attorney representing the Wood family. \u201cThey wouldn\u2019t take her to a doctor or hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Goldman said he is in talks for a wrongful death case with a lawyer representing Lakeland Girls Academy.
