The 62-58 win wrapped up the 2021 GSC\/SSC Challenge at Paul Dana Walker Arena at Lee University. The Moccasins (1-1) converted points on 12 UAH turnovers and 15 second chance opportunities as the Chargers (0-2) finished the GSC\/SSC Challenge without a win.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"942\" height=\"628\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Dabu_2.jpg?resize=942%2C628&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17145\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Dabu_2.jpg?w=942&amp;ssl=1 942w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Dabu_2.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Dabu_2.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two Moccasin players scored points in double digits for Florida Southern to gain their first win of the season.&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fscmocs.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=3753\">Whitney Jacob<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;had a her first double-double as a Moc followed by freshman,&nbsp;<strong><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fscmocs.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=3750\">Arielle Dabu<\/a><\/dfn><\/strong>&nbsp;with double-digit points.<br><br>&#8220;It was good to get a win today over a good UAH team after a tough loss last night,&#8221; said head coach&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fscmocs.com\/coaches.aspx?rc=324\">Betsy Harris<\/a><\/dfn>. &#8220;We did not shoot the ball well either day, against Lee we could not overcome a bad first half of play. The second half we competed much better. We were able to stay in the gam against UAH because of Whitney&#8217;s scoring and Arielle&#8217;s tough plays on both ends of the floor. We still have a ways to go on being the team I know we are capable of being. They were good games to experience&nbsp;before our first conference game next Saturday at Barry.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>HOW IT HAPPENED<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1st Quarter |<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Mocs started the game down as Pruitt opened up the scoring for the Chargers early with a layup.<\/li><li>Less than a minute later, Jacob tied the score at 2-2 with a layup off of a rebound. This would be the start of a Moccasin six-point run.<\/li><li><strong>Sara Wogelmuth&nbsp;<\/strong>converted on a layup assisted by Jacob to give the Mocs their first lead of the game.<\/li><li>Dabu created an offensive opportunity with a steal in the Mocs defensive end, finishing with a layup to put the Mocs up six points.<\/li><li>After a scoring run by the Chargers, the Mocs would be held scoreless until just after the two minute mark of the quarter, where Jacob&nbsp;added another two with a driving layup, tying the score at 10.<\/li><li>The Mocs finished the quarter down four points with a score of 16-12.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2nd Quarter |&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>At the beginning of the second quarter, the Chargers&nbsp;put up their biggest lead of the game at seven points.<\/li><li>Less than two minutes into the quarter, Dabu began to close the gap for the Mocs with a fast break layup.<\/li><li>A seven-point run from Jacob tied the Mocs back up at 21, continuing with another layup to put the Mocs up by two.<\/li><li><strong><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fscmocs.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=3746\">Ashley Shell<\/a><\/dfn><\/strong>&nbsp;converted on a caused turnover, allowing FSC to take a four-point lead.<\/li><li>After a small Charger&#8217;s comeback,&nbsp;<strong>Sanya Ratinkava<\/strong>&nbsp;gave the Mocs the go-ahead with a jump shot from the paint.&nbsp;<\/li><li>The Mocs ended the quarter down by one after a buzzer beater by the Chargers. The score at the half was 28-27, UAH.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3rd Quarter |&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Dabu opened up the second-half scoring for the Mocs with a huge three point jump shot from outside the arc.<\/li><li><strong><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fscmocs.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=3747\">Mackenzie Steele<\/a><\/dfn><\/strong>&nbsp;added to the lead as she finished a three pointer as well.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Jacob continued the scoring for the Mocs, putting up 4 points from shots in the paint and one successful free throw.<\/li><li>Dabu and Jacob continued to add to the Moccasin lead, with Dabu converting four free throws and a three point shot, and Jacob with a layup.&nbsp;<\/li><li>The Moccasins achieved their largest lead of the game at 14 points after a successful free throw by&nbsp;<strong><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fscmocs.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=3754\">Marissa Jenike<\/a><\/dfn><\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fscmocs.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=3741\">Aubrey Burke<\/a><\/dfn><\/strong>&nbsp;and Jenike&nbsp;rounded out the quarter for the Mocs with a free throw point from Burke and a layup from Jenike.<\/li><li>The Moccasins headed into the final quarter up by nine, with a score of 42-51.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4th Quarter |&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>After an early score from the Chargers, Jacob answered back with another layup made.<\/li><li><strong><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fscmocs.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=3756\">Domenica Zamora<\/a><\/dfn><\/strong>&nbsp;put up a consecutive seven points for the Moccasin&#8217;s offense, with a three pointer and two layups.<\/li><li>The Chargers rallied to get another two points back before Steele scored for the Moccasins final two points of the game.<\/li><li>Alabama Huntsville put up&nbsp;points late to attempt a comeback, but not enough to pick up the win.<\/li><li>The Mocs held on to win by four, with a final score of 58-62.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>INSIDE THE NUMBERS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Florida Southern improves to 6-1 all-time against Alabama Huntsville.<\/li><li><strong><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fscmocs.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=3753\">Whitney Jacob<\/a><\/dfn><\/strong>&nbsp;had a double-double, with 26 points on the game and 10 rebounds.&nbsp;<\/li><li>From the field, the Mocs shot 38.7% going 24-for-62. From beyond the arc, FSC shot 20.0% going 5-of-25. The Mocs converted on 9 of 11 free throw attempts, with a free throw percentage of 81.8%.<\/li><li>Florida Southern finishes the tournament at the GSC\/SSC Challenge with a split record of 1-1.<\/li><li>Florida Southern outscored Alabama Huntsville in the paint 36-28, but the Chargers bench outscored the Mocs 15-29.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>UP NEXT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Florida Southern continues their season against their first Sunshine State Conference opponent on the road at Barry University on Saturday, November 20.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Florida Southern College women&#8217;s basketball picked up their first win of the season against the University of Alabama in Huntsville Saturday afternoon.
