Two Polk County sheriff’s deputies<\/a> resigned after one was pulled over for careless driving and the other was arrested on drunken driving charges, the Sheriff’s Office said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheriff’s officials said Lakeland police<\/a> officers stopped 22-year-old Jalynn Guinn, an off-duty Polk County deputy, early Wednesday morning after they saw her stop her car in the middle of South Florida Avenue near Orange Street burning out her tires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a sheriff’s news release, she drove west to East Lemon Street and the officers conducted the traffic stop in the parking lot of Tropical Smoothie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While LPD officers spoke with Guinn during the stop, they said another car pulled into a neighboring parking lot and 27-year-old Michael Gonzalez-Lauzan of Lakeland got out and approached the officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The LPD officers asked Gonzalez-Lauzan to stop and wait for them to come talk with him, but they said he continued to walk toward the officers and told them that he was an off-duty Polk County deputy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the release, Gonzalez-Lauzan was agitated. Officials said the officers could smell alcohol on him and called the Sheriff’s Office to respond. While deputies were on the way, Guinn also told the officers that she was an off-duty deputy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sheriff’s Office said Gonzalez-Lauzan told deputies he and Guinn were leaving Linkster’s bar when he saw the officers pull her over. He said he came over to tell Guinn to turn her car off but backed off once the officers shined a flashlight in his eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The responding Polk deputies conducted sobriety tests on Gonzalez-Lauzan and said he showed signs of being impaired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deputies arrested him and he gave two breath samples with the highest being 0.164, the Sheriff’s Office said. The legal threshold is 0.08.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gonzalez-Lauzan was booked into the Polk County Jail on a charge of driving under the influence and was released after posting $500 bond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He resigned immediately upon his arrest. The Sheriff’s Office said Gonzalez-Lauzan would’ve been fired if he hadn’t resigned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guinn got a traffic citation from LPD for careless driving and also resigned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gonzalez-Lauzan was hired as a deputy in 2019 and Guinn was hired January 2021.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
