it triggered warnings and watches for the&nbsp;islands of the Eastern Caribbean Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By August 27, Dorian moved across St. Lucia and into the\neastern Caribbean Sea bringing tropical-storm-force winds with it. The National\nHurricane Center or NHC said the Caribbean composite radar data show that\nDorian remains a very compact system and that it still lacks a well-defined\ninner core.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NHC posted many watches and warnings on Aug. 27. A Hurricane Watch is in effect for Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic from Isla Saona to Samana. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Martinique, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Puerto Rico. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Dominica, Grenada and its dependencies, Saba and St. Eustatius, the Dominican Republic from Isla Saona to Punta Palenque, and the Dominican Republic from Samana to Puerto Plata.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Wednesday, August 28, 2019, the National Hurricane Center or NHC noted that a Hurricane Watch is in effect for Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the British Virgin Islands. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the Dominican Republic from Isla Saona to Samana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Infrared Temperatures Indicate Strong Storms<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"535\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/I05_N20_083119_0648_Dorian_eye_labels-768x535.png?resize=768%2C535&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2094\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/I05_N20_083119_0648_Dorian_eye_labels-768x535.png?resize=768%2C535&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/I05_N20_083119_0648_Dorian_eye_labels-768x535.png?resize=300%2C209&amp;ssl=1 300w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cloud top temperatures provide information to forecasters\nabout where the strongest storms are located within a tropical cyclone. The\nstronger the storms, the higher they extend into the troposphere, and the\ncolder the cloud top temperatures. NASA\u2019s Aqua satellite analyzed Tropical\nStorm Dorian\u2019s cloud tops to get that information. AIRS found that some areas\nin Dorian were being affected by dry air, which was sapping the development of\nthunderstorms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Aug. 29 at 5 a.m. EDT (0900 UTC), NOAA\u2019s NHC said the\ncenter of Hurricane Dorian was located near latitude 20.5 degrees north and\nlongitude 66.6 degrees west.&nbsp;That puts Dorian\u2019s center about 150 miles\n(240 km) north-northwest of San Juan, Puerto Rico and about 425 miles (685 km)\neast-southeast of the southeastern Bahamas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dorian is moving toward the northwest near 13 mph (20 kph),\nand this general motion&nbsp;is expected to continue through Friday.&nbsp; A\nwest-northwestward motion is forecast to begin Friday night and continue into\nthe weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maximum sustained winds are near 85 mph (140 kph) with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and Dorian is expected to become a major hurricane on Friday. The minimum central pressure based on earlier Air Force Reserve\u00a0Hurricane Hunter data is 991 Mb (29.27 inches).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NHC said, \u201cOn this track, Dorian should move over the Atlantic well east of the southeastern and central Bahamas today and on Friday, and approach the northwestern Bahamas on Saturday.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dorian is expected to strengthen during the next\u00a0few days and become a major hurricane later\u00a0today (Aug. 30). The infrared\nimagery continues to show convection gravity waves consistent with an intense\nstorm.&nbsp; The successive&nbsp;passes showed the rotation of the storm at\nhigh resolution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NHC on Sept 1 at 8:00 am EDT advisory reports that Hurricane\nDorian has reached Category 5 status on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind\nscale.&nbsp;Data from a Hurricane Hunter plane which just penetrated&nbsp;the\neye of Dorian indicate that the maximum sustained winds have&nbsp;increased to\nnear 160 mph (260 km\/h) with higher gusts.&nbsp;Devastating hurricane\nconditions are expected in the Abacos&nbsp;Islands very soon and these\nconditions will spread across Grand&nbsp;Bahama Island later today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later than morning data from a Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate that Dorian has continued to intensify, and now has maximum sustained winds near 175 mph (280 km\/h) and wind gusts over 200 mph.\u00a0 A storm surge of 15 to 20 feet above normal tides with higher destructive waves.\u00a0 There is a minimum central\u00a0pressure of 922 Mb (27.23 inches).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The eyewall of catastrophic Hurricane Dorian is currently reaching the Abaco Islands.\u00a0This is a life-threatening situation.\u00a0Residents, there should take immediate shelter.\u00a0 The NHC urges: \u201cDo not venture into the eye if\u00a0it passes over your location.\u00a0These hazards will cause extreme destruction in the affected areas.\u00a0and will continue for several hours.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">September 2, 2019, 4 pm the Dangerous Hurricane Dorian has weakened slightly and is now a Category 4 storm as it continues to spin over the Bahamas.\u00a0 Dorian has slowed to a crawl in terms of speed of movement only moving at west-northwest at about 1 mph (2 km\/h).\u00a0 This means that the Bahamas will continue to get lashed by this monstrous storm and the amount of rainfall totals for the area continue to grow.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"934\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/dorian201908-5-1024x934.png?fit=1024%2C934&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2103\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/dorian201908-5-1024x934.png?resize=1024%2C934&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/dorian201908-5-1024x934.png?resize=300%2C274&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/dorian201908-5-1024x934.png?resize=768%2C701&amp;ssl=1 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the early hours of Tuesday, September 3, Hurricane Dorian\nhad been stationary over the island of Grand Bahama for 18 hours, most of the\ntime as a category 5 hurricane. Storm-total rain accumulation over parts of\nGrand Bahama and Abaco Islands have exceeded 24 inches according to NASA\nsatellite-based estimates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBy Wednesday morning, September 4, the rain accumulation from Hurricane Dorian exceeded 36 inches in an area that included parts of Grand Bahama Island and Abaco Island,\u201d said Owen Kelley, a researcher at NASA Goddard. \u201cBy that time, the Dorian\u2019s center was north of the Bahamas and was moving further north, approximately parallel to Florida\u2019s east coast.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">September 5 during little to Florida Hurricane Dorian continues to generate tremendous amounts of rainfall, and has leftover three feet of rain in some areas of the Bahamas and is now lashing the Carolinas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"463\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Dorian-AIRS-VISIBLE-768x463.jpg?resize=768%2C463&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2104\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Dorian-AIRS-VISIBLE-768x463.jpg?resize=768%2C463&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Dorian-AIRS-VISIBLE-768x463.jpg?resize=300%2C181&amp;ssl=1 300w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Thursday morning, September 5, Hurricane Dorian had dumped heavy rain on coastal South Carolina.\u00a0 An even greater accumulation of over 10 inches was occurring offshore along the path of Dorian\u2019s inner core.\u00a0 Plus, inland tornadoes.
