Lakeland Commissioners will be voting on another proposal for 252 apartments in SW Lakeland<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lakeland City Commissioners are expected to vote Monday on another zoning change that could clear the way for a new, high-density apartment complex off the southwest corner of West Pipkin and Yates roads. West Pipkin Road is currently under construction with plans to widen it to a four-lane road from Medulla Road to Harden Boulevard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The application from Joann Rubio with consultant Mosaic Development LLC on behalf of property owner English Creek LLC. That’s the same owner that was\u00a0turned down for a Morgan Creek expansion\u00a0near Medulla and Hamilton Roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The application seeks to change the future land use on 17.2 acres from Neighborhood Activity Center to Residential High and use on 1.5 acres from Neighborhood Activity Center to Convenience Center. The applicant also seeks to apply Planned Unit Development zoning to the aforementioned 17.2 acres. The combined 18.7-acre parcel is vacant.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0Several residents and voters have expressed concerns about how\u00a0the complex could impact traffic, local schools’ capacity for children, and vehicles traveling through Town Park Estates.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chuck Barmby said there are long-range plans to improve its intersection at Yates Road. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The developer is also working with Polk County to add a driveway to the proposed development on Yates Road, according to Barmby, allowing another vehicular access to the complex. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
