They&#8217;re &#8220;superabsorbent polymers&#8221; as described by their manufacturer on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B07F26923Z\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amazon<\/a>, and once water is added to a single bead, it can grow up to 10 times its original size.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"290\" style=\"border:1px solid #e6e6e6\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wtsp.com\/embeds\/video\/67-5369709b-c3fa-4bb7-82e6-69b313d13561\/iframe\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" webkitallowfullscreen=\"true\" mozallowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The popular toy has become an international TikTok craze. Videos using the #OrbeezChallenge hashtag show people doing wacky experiments with the colorful jellies, like filling bathtubs and even pools. But, there&#8217;s a more sinister version of the viral challenge making the rounds, and law enforcement want to put an end to it.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Authorities have been reporting people shooting Orbeez with a gel blaster or similar type of gun. The toy becomes a soft, gel-like product when water is added, but police warn they can be hurt if fired.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This version of the challenge has led to two arrests, including two teens in Volusia County who were\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VolusiaSheriff\/status\/1504200672031428610\" target=\"_blank\">caught on camera<\/a>\u00a0firing at several neighbors, children, and even an Amazon truck driver.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says shooting somebody with an airsoft gun outside an organized game could lead to battery or assault charges. In some instances, he says firing an airsoft gun could end worse.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"694\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/orbeez.jpg?resize=1024%2C694&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21123\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/orbeez.jpg?w=1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/orbeez.jpg?resize=300%2C203&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/orbeez.jpg?resize=768%2C521&amp;ssl=1 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;If somebody misunderstands that toy gun for a real gun, and I\u2019ve even heard that they\u2019re painting them to look real instead of toys, you can be shot,&#8221; Judd says. &#8220;And, if you shoot it into a vehicle, certainly that\u2019s a felony of the second degree for shooting into an occupied vehicle. So, it\u2019s just a bad idea all the way around.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, whether it&#8217;s for likes or bragging rights, Judd says to not hop on the challenge.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Just because you see it on TikTok, just because you see it on social media, doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s a good idea,&#8221; Judd says. &#8220;So, it starts as fun and games but can end up causing you to be arrested, be injured or be killed.
