{"id":21478,"date":"2022-04-06T13:06:06","date_gmt":"2022-04-06T17:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=21478"},"modified":"2022-04-06T13:06:10","modified_gmt":"2022-04-06T17:06:10","slug":"lakeland-royals-wins-first-home-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2022\/04\/06\/lakeland-royals-wins-first-home-game\/","title":{"rendered":"Lakeland Royals wins first home game"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Lakeland Royals made history by playing their first FBA basketball games Saturday night against the Winter Park Storm featuring a 7-foot center playing for the Storm.\u00a0\u00a0 Amy Rhodes, the owner of the Royals, is the first female owner and also the youngest owner of an FBA team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1110\" height=\"1110\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/IMG_20210919_231828_122.webp?resize=1110%2C1110&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21479\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was an exciting game all the way through.&nbsp; The Lakeland Royals got off to a quick start jumping out to a 15 point lead and looked like they were going to run away with the game.&nbsp; However the Storm made some adjustments and remained close throughout the first half.&nbsp; At the end of the first half the score was 58 &#8211; 47 Lakeland Royals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the beginning of the second half showed a back and forth contest with each team making some runs.&nbsp; The Royals then had a three minute drought and at the end of the third quarter had the Storm leading 81 to 76.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the fourth quarter the storm continued to build momentum and with three and a half minutes left led by 11 points.&nbsp; However, the Lakeland Royals began a full court pressure defense the limited the Storm\u2019s ability to gain full control of the game.&nbsp; The Royals put together an impressive run to retake the lead with 44 seconds left in the game.&nbsp; With 26 seconds left the game was tied at 102 &#8211; 102.&nbsp; The Royals began to move the ball and made a quick shot and then stole the inbounds pass but missed the short jumper.&nbsp; Smith rebounded the ball and put it in to make the score 106 to 102 lead with 18 seconds left.&nbsp; The Storm went to the free throw line and made 2 free throws bringing the game back to 106 to 104.
