Polk County Fire Rescue has recognized the benefit that volunteers provide to their community, especially during a time of crisis or disaster. To provide Polk County residents with a chance to make a difference in their community, Polk County Fire Rescue enacted the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Polk County Fire Rescue CERT program is a Federal Emergency Management Agency program designed to educate residents on disaster preparedness, fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, disaster psychology, medical triage and treatment for a mass casualty incident, and various other skills that can be used in a time of crisis. Today, Polk County Fire Rescue CERT program has more than 650 active members and 32 trained teams ready to provide recovery assistance within their communities following a disaster or public crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each year, members from around Polk County gather to practice hands-on skills outside of the classroom setting to ensure they are ready for action. During CERT\u2019s most recent training, on April 2, members rotated in teams to practice a variety of skills, which included fire suppression, cribbing techniques, exterior and interior searches, lifts and carries, positioning, Check Call Compress, splinting, and determining how to stop the bleed.\u00a0During that time,100 CERT members took advantage of the training event and many provided positive feedback on the educational benefit of the hands-on training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Polk has more than 650 members positioned throughout the county, we are still looking for new members who want to serve their community. Our CERT members learn how to prepare for emergencies, stock household supplies, prepare food and water supplies, and how to protect your family in a state of emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
