LAKELAND GIRLS ACADEMY\u2019s operators have been sued by the parents of Naomi Wood, a 17-year-old student who died at the academy. The lawsuit alleges negligence and seeks more than $30,000 in damages<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The parents of a girl who died in 2020 while a student at a Lakeland \u201crestoration home\u201d have filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the facility\u2019s former directors and Teen Challenge of Florida, which operated it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawyers for Albert and Deborah Wood, the parents of Naomi Wood, filed the lawsuit last week with the 10th Judicial Circuit Court in Bartow. The Woods requested a jury trial and are seeking damages of more than $30,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naomi Wood, 17, died on May 19, 2020, after months of complaining about persistent abdominal pains while a resident at Lakeland Girls Academy, according to a report from the Florida Department of Children and Families. A medical examiner ruled that Wood died of a seizure disorder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
