\n\nAnxious to get back on the court after a long layoff, the Southeastern University volleyball team came away with a 3-0 win over Webber International in front of a capacity crowd Wednesday night.

The Fire picked up their first Sun Conference win of the season, beating the Warriors in straight sets, 25-20, 25-18, and 25-22 to improve to 7-2.

“I think the most exciting team was seeing us click and unite as a team,” said coach Audrey Goldsberry<\/a>. “We spoke tonight about gracefully winning together and I think we did that.”

This is the first time SEU has swept Webber International since September 29, 2015.

Southeastern had one of its best hitting nights of the season, posting a .210 team attack percentage which was led by senior captain Emily Kalmink<\/a>, who hit .579 with 11 kills and no errors on 19 attacks. She also added three blocks.

“I think the key to success was implementing what we practiced this week,” said Kalmink. “We worked on a lot of little stuff and our scouting report and implemented that really well today. The energy that was on the court got me excited.”

In the first set, the Fire came out strong, posting a .345 attacking percentage in the set with 14 kills. Trailing 11-10, SEU won seven of the next eight rallies to take a 17-12 advantage and control of the set.

During the second, the Warriors (3-4) struggled with their attack, committing 10 errors. The third set saw the Warriors rattle off four straight points late to tie the set at 20. SEU got an ace, a kill from Kalmink, a pair of Webber miscues, and a kill from Emily Boehlein<\/a> to clinch the match.

“We talked a lot about self-discipline and self-leadership, and they need to call themselves out on what they’re doing well and not doing well and be able to then put that onto the team,” said Goldsberry. “I thought it was great seeing them step up and not have to use me and instead use each other.”  

Boehlein finished the match with seven kills. Taylor Gregory<\/a> added five kills, a .556 hitting percentage and was in on three blocks.

Sarah Castillo<\/a> posted a team-best 19 assists, and had eight digs. Baylee Warneke<\/a> led the back row with 14 digs, and added four kills and two aces.
