Eleven former Polk State Eagles played professional baseball this year. Here\u2019s a recap of their performance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alec Asher <\/strong>went 4-1 with a 3.58 ERA in 37 innings for the Sugar Land Skeeters and the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League (Independent) before signing with the Taiwan Uni-Lions of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. In the previous four years he pitched in 38 major-league games for the Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles, and Milwaukee Brewers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beginning his pro career with Atlanta Braves\u2019 Danville (Va.) affiliate (Appalachian League, Rookie), Alec Barger <\/strong>finished 0-3 with 16 walks and 43 strikeouts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jordan Barrett <\/strong>posted a 4-6 record for the Gateway (Ill.) Grizzlies (Frontier League Independent). Named the Grizzlies\u2019 Opening Day pitcher, he had a 4.37 ERA with 62 walks and 108 strikeouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jonathan Bermudez <\/strong>went 6-1 with 4.10 ERA, 26 walks, and 79 strikeouts for the Quad Cities River Bandits (Houston Astros, Single A Midwest League. He also appeared in two games for the Corpus Christi Hooks (Houston, Double A, Texas League).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After finishing his senior year of college, Isaiah Cullum <\/strong>had a double and two RBI in nine games for the Gateway (Ill.) Grizzlies (Frontier League, Independent).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his first pro season,Zach Biermann <\/strong>split time between the Quad Cities River Bandits and the Tri-City ValleyCats (Houston Astros, Single A, New York-Penn League). In 45 games he had eight doubles, five home runs, and 22 RBI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chavez Fernander <\/strong>advanced to the Connecticut Tigers (Detroit Tigers, NY-Penn League, Single A). In 35 innings he went 2-2 with a 2.31 ERA, 13 walks, and 33 strikeouts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jordan Guerrero <\/strong>had 57 strikeouts in 52 innings for the Lake Elsinore Storm (San Diego Padres, California League, Single A). He finished 2-3 with a 1 2.05 ERA. He also appeared in one game for the Amarillo Sod Poodles of the Texas League (San Diego Padres, Double A).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Playing his third season in the Miami Marlins organization, JD Osborne <\/strong>hit .258 for the Clinton (Iowa) LumberKings (Midwest League, Single A). He slugged 10 homers and 28 doubles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Making his pro debut for the Gulf Coast Red Sox (Boston, Gulf Coast League, Rookie), Zach Schneider <\/strong>had 33 strikeouts and just four walks. He went 1-2 with a 2.28 ERA and four saves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jordan Spicer <\/strong>started his professional career for the Boise (Idaho) Hawks (Colorado Rockies, Northwest League, Single A). Seeing limited action, he had one walk and four strikeouts in three innings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his first season out of college, Zak Spivy <\/strong>pitched in 18 games for the Florence (Ky.) Freedom of the Frontier League (Independent). He posted a 2-5 record with a 2.86 ERA.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
