{"id":22980,"date":"2022-06-06T14:05:10","date_gmt":"2022-06-06T18:05:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=22980"},"modified":"2022-06-06T15:50:01","modified_gmt":"2022-06-06T19:50:01","slug":"lakeland-commission-denies-lake-miriam-apartments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2022\/06\/06\/lakeland-commission-denies-lake-miriam-apartments\/","title":{"rendered":"Lakeland commission denies Lake Miriam Apartments"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commissioners will have one of three options Monday: to approve the development, to approve it with conditions, or deny it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">City Attorney Palmer Davis&nbsp;warned&nbsp;failure to approve the development legally is not the same as denying the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Davis said in this &#8220;quasi-judicial&#8217; hearing, the developer and property owner, Publix Supermarkets,&nbsp;have to first prove the proposed apartment complex is compatible with the existing neighborhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a June 1 letter to the city, Tampa-based lawyer S. Elise Batsel said the developer has proved&nbsp;compatibility&nbsp;according to Lakeland&#8217;s own employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commission McLeod and Mayor Mutz voted for the apartments all the rest of the commissioners voted no. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I take over two hours to get the denial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In denying the development, commissioners cited a drastically increased square footage over a previously approved project and also discussed increased traffic impacts as seen in increased transportation impact fees for the apartment project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The developer\u2019s staff was upset that the commissioners allowed one person to video tape and play her comments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Linda Bagley Wiggs video \u2026\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hx1Z99MT1r0\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Commissioners will have one of three options Monday: to approve the development, to approve it with conditions, or deny it.
