Florida Southern College women’s tennis head coach Trish Riddell<\/a> has added three newcomers to the Moccasin squad for the upcoming 2019-20 season. The two transfers and one freshman will join a squad that last season earned a third-straight south regional berth, posting a 15-8 record and earning upset victories over No. 2 West Florida and Division-I foe NJIT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I am very excited about our newcomers, they have shown great effort in the short time we have been able to be together and at practice,” Riddell said. “Our transfers will obviously bring in some experience from the Division I and II levels which is helpful, and Laura, although she is a freshman, has plenty of competitive experience as well. We shall be looking for all three to contribute in both singles and doubles and add many wins along the way. The team is always looking to get better and we aspire to improve every year and that is what our expectations will be for the 2020 season.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oscar Tietz Oberschule\/NYIT | Riga, Latvia<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baumbartnere joins Riddell’s squad after spending one year at NYIT. While there she achieved a No. 11 national ranking in doubles with partner Barbie Quagliardi and went 17-3 in both singles and doubles action She posted 15 two-set wins in singles, was an ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete, a first-team All-ECC selection and a three-time player of the week. Baumbartnere was the 2018 ITA East Region doubles champion and was second in singles and first in doubles in ITA East Region rankings. She spent her freshman year at Azusa Pacific, where she achieved No. 39 in ITA national singles rankings, going 13-7 in singles and 3-2 against nationally-ranked opponents. She reached semifinals in ITA West Region singles and doubles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

San Jos\u00e9 State | Stockholm, Sweden<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vidgren joins the Moccasins after one season at San Jose State. In her one year at SJSU, she earned a 6-7 singles record and partnered with Savannah Sendar in doubles, defeating Ava Markham and Maryann Rompf of Washington, 8-5 (Oct. 5). In singles, Vidgren won in three sets over Karina Vyrian of Pacific (Oct. 5) and won 6-3, 6-2 over Emily Ackerman from Cal-Poly (Jan. 27).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
