\n\nSoutheastern dropped its second straight sun conference match in five sets, falling to Ave Maria 3-2 Wednesday night.

The Gyrenes (3-6) used a 6-0 run in the first half to take an 11-6 advantage, but the Fire answered back late in the set, down 21-19 with a 6-2 run to win the set 25-23.

The second set saw the Fire (7-4) muster up just nine kills on 31 attacks and commit eight attack errors in a 25-19 setback.

AMU had its second best hitting set in the third, posting 15 kills and a .256 attack percentage to edge out the Fire 25-22. The Gyrenes hit .211 as a team in the match, which is their highest hitting percentage of the season.

Southeastern answered in the fourth with its best attacking effort of 15 kills and a .303 attacking percentage to force the fifth set with a 25-23 win. The Fire clung to a 23-22 lead in the set, and were the beneficiaries of two service errors by the Gyrenes.

During the fifth, Ave Maria used a Fire miscue to spur a 5-0 run and take an 11-5 lead and control of the set. SEU got as close as four twice in the final set, including at 12-8, but Ave Maria closed out the tiebreaker with a kill and a pair of Fire attack errors.

Emily Boehlein<\/a> and Emily Kalmink<\/a> led the attack with 16 and 11 kills, respectively. Boehlein posted a .361 attacking percentage and Kalmink was at .429. Kalmink was also in on seven blocks and Boehlein on four.

Sarah Castillo<\/a> had a team-best 42 assists, and added 10 digs. She was one of four SEU players in double figures in digs, led by Grace Ball<\/a> with 17.

The Fire are back in action on Saturday with a non-conference match against Brewton-Parker at 2 p.m.
