Hi Everyone, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m Jiwa Farrell. I am running for a seat on our Lakeland City Commission, Northeast District B. My husband James and I have lived in our District for over ten years.\u00a0 All registered voters within Lakeland City voting limits may vote in my election on November 5, 2019.\u00a0 I\u2019m asking for your vote and here\u2019s why\u2026\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initially, I was greatly inspired by the Lakeland City Commission in 2016 when then-Mayor Wiggs granted my family and me a proclamation for Lung Cancer Awareness after we lost my sister, Felicia.\u00a0 Felicia\u2019s lung cancer was secondary to her Lupus, an autoimmune disease. I became my sister\u2019s advocate when she needed a voice and could not speak for herself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For over a decade I represented Lakeland and Central Florida\ngiving a voice to The Lupus Community by traveling to Washington D.C. Because\nof continuous efforts, working with non-aligned advocacy groups, and across\nparty lines, demanding to be heard, the Bipartisan Congressional Lupus Caucus\nwas formed So many issues of our time are nonpartisan, affecting any of us, at\nany time. This is why I want to represent you and all of Lakeland.  From health care to jobs to affordable living\nand education, (small) business, technology and city infrastructure, issues\nthat affect all of us.  They affect our\nquality of life no matter who we are.  I\nwill bring my experience in the finance and insurance sectors, along with my\nadvocacy experience to the City Commission to make sure that all voices have a\nseat at the City Commission table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s fight to make sure that Lakeland Electric remains\nowned by the people of this great city. \nLet\u2019s utilize our existing infrastructure, for which we are already\npaying. Let\u2019s develop broadband communication services which we will own as\ncitizens of Lakeland.  Let\u2019s keep our\nhistorically significant architecture while rehabilitating and growing our\nability to provide affordable housing to those working yet still struggling due\nto low wages.  Let us also not forget our\nhomeless populations, many of whom just need a fresh start while others need\nlonger-term residential services.  We can\ndo this, you and I, all of us working together: in our schools, health care\ncenters, food, transportation, government, utilities and cultural arts to name\njust a few.  Join me in making it work\nfor all of us in our wonderfully diverse city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
