Three students from Lake Gibson High have been selected for a new apprenticeship program with Lockheed Martin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three students \u2014 Naydelin Franco, Dan Ying Jiang and Guido Ordonez \u2014 will spend the next two years working with Lockheed Martin\u2019s Global Payroll team in Lakeland. <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Officials from PCPS and Lockheed Martin celebrated the occasion on Thursday morning with a signing ceremony at LGHS. The three students \u2014 Naydelin Franco, Dan Ying Jiang and Guido Ordonez \u2014 will spend the next two years working with Lockheed Martin\u2019s Global Payroll team in Lakeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They\u2019ll learn the fundamentals of the payroll business before moving on to more complex processes and policies that are specific to Lockheed Martin. If they successfully complete the program, the LGHS juniors will earn a professional certification and have a chance to work for the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis has been a vision of ours for some time,\u201d said Christine Michalik, Lockheed Martin\u2019s director of payroll. \u201cWe are trying to create a new talent pipeline for payroll professionals at Lockheed Martin. Our goal is to keep these folks in our organization, where they can grow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The apprenticeship program with Lockheed Martin is a natural fit for students in the finance and business career academies at LGHS, said Steve Cochran, PCPS\u2019 acting senior director of workforce education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLockheed Martin knows how to keep our talent here; we need to show our students what\u2019s available in Polk County,\u201d Cochran said. \u201cThe best way for students to learn about these jobs is to go out and do them.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
