Joel Ivy, General Manager, Lakeland Electric, Lakeland,\nFlorida has been awarded the James D. Donovan Individual Achievement\nAward: This award recognizes people who have made substantial contributions\nto the electric utility industry, with a special commitment to public power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joel Ivy is Lakeland Electric\u2019s General Manager. Lakeland\nElectric is Florida\u2019s third largest municipal electric utility and the 25th\nlargest in the U.S.A. Lakeland Electric serves 120,000 customers through its\ntransmission and distribution facilities from 1100 MWs of generation capacity\nfueled by coal and natural gas.

\nIvy has an extensive professional career in the power industry that began more\nthan 30 years ago when he started as a lineman in 1983. He has had a steady\ncareer path that ranges from climbing utility poles to managing multi-hundred million-dollar\noperations with start-ups, investor owned and publicly owned utilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The association handed out fifteen individuals and nine\nutilities were recognized for service to the American Public Power Association\nand the public power industry during an awards ceremony at the Association\u2019s\nNational Conference in Austin, Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The individuals and utilities recognized at the ceremony on\nJune 11 were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alex Radin Distinguished Service Award<\/strong>: This\naward is the highest award granted by the American Public Power Association.\nThe award recognizes exceptional leadership and dedication to public power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Andrew \u201cAndy\u201d Boatright, General Manager,\nZeeland Board of Public Works, Zeeland, Michigan<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    James D. Donovan Individual Achievement Award<\/strong>: This\naward recognizes people who have made substantial contributions to the electric\nutility industry, with a special commitment to public power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Paula Gold-Williams, President & Chief\nExecutive Officer, CPS Energy, San Antonio, Texas<\/li>
    • Joel Ivy, General Manager, Lakeland Electric,\nLakeland, Florida<\/li>
    • Nilaksh Kothari, CEO & General Manager,\nManitowoc Public Utilities, Manitowoc, Wisconsin<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Alan H. Richardson Statesmanship Award<\/strong>: This\naward recognizes public power leaders who work to achieve consensus on national\nissues important to public power utilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • Kevin G. Wailes, Chief Executive Officer,\nLincoln Electric System, Lincoln, Nebraska<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Larry Hobart Seven Hats Award<\/strong>: This award\nrecognizes managers of small utilities serving fewer than 2,500 meters. These\nmanagers have a very small staff and must assume multiple roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Harold Kramer-John Preston Personal Service Award:<\/strong> This\naward recognizes individuals for their service to the American Public Power\nAssociation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          • James C. Welsh, President & General Manager,\nChief Executive Officer, Kissimmee Utility Authority, Kissimmee, Florida<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            Spence Vanderlinden Public Official Award<\/strong>: This\naward recognizes elected or appointed local officials who have contributed to\nthe goals of the American Public Power Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            • Ted Olson, Utilities Board Chair, Ephraim City\nCorporation, Ephraim, Utah<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

              Robert E. Roundtree Rising Star Award<\/strong>: This\naward is a scholarship presented to future leaders in public power. The\nrecipient receives a stipend to travel to an Association conference or training\nprogram to advance their education and development in public power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              • Devon Tremont, Energy Analyst, Taunton Municipal\nLighting Plant, Taunton, Massachusetts<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                Mark Crisson Leadership and Managerial Excellence Award<\/strong>: This\naward recognizes managers at a utility, joint action agency, or state or\nregional association who steer their organizations to new levels of excellence,\nlead by example, and inspire staff to do better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
