Nick proposed to his wife Shaina 21 years ago with a diamond engagement ring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But before the couple said \u2018I do,\u2019 the token of Nick\u2019s love went down the toilet. Literally.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cShe came to me one day and said \u2018I think I lost my ring.\u2019 She said \u2018it was on the counter now it\u2019s gone and I think I may have flushed it down the toilet on accident.’\u201d Nick recalled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The couple searched for the missing ring by getting down and dirty trying to find the diamond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cI climbed down into the septic tank so we could pump every bit of it through a strainer to try to find it. No luck,\u201d Shaina said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then last month, Nick\u2019s mother Renee hired a local plumber to replace her toilet. He discovered the ring lodged inside.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cHe said \u2018do you think its Shaina\u2019s ring?\u2019 and I looked at it again and I went \u2018oh my God yes!’\u201d said Nick\u2019s mom, Renee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proving diamonds are forever, even if this one needed a good cleaning. The ring was wrapped up as a Christmas present by Nick\u2019s parents and given as a surprise to the couple on Christmas night.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cThey brought this out. It was wrapped up in a little Christmas bag so we opened it up and both of us knew exactly what it was,\u201d Nick added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was kind of an ugly cry. I sat there and I was like \u2018oh my gosh, this is my ring. This is my ring.\u2019 I\u2019m wiping my eyes and mascara is going everywhere,\u201d Shaina said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The couple says they may incorporate the diamond into a new piece of jewelry, or pass it on for a future generation to enjoy. The couple says they learned a valuable lesson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
