{"id":28985,"date":"2023-01-15T17:41:56","date_gmt":"2023-01-15T22:41:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=28985"},"modified":"2023-01-15T17:42:00","modified_gmt":"2023-01-15T22:42:00","slug":"miss-usa-wins-miss-universe-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2023\/01\/15\/miss-usa-wins-miss-universe-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Miss USA wins Miss Universe Competition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">R\u2019Bonney Gabriel, a fashion designer, model and sewing instructor from Texas who competition officials said is the first Filipino American to win Miss USA, was crowned Miss Universe on Saturday night<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" src=\"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/63c37da3b4171f001957ed35.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28986\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gabriel closed her eyes and clasped hands with runner-up Miss&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/alerts\/Venezuela\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Venezuela<\/a>, Amanda Dudamel, at the moment of the dramatic reveal of the winner, then beamed after her name was announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thumping music rang out, and she was handed a bouquet of flowers, draped in the winner\u2019s sash and crowned with a tiara onstage at the 71st Miss Universe Competition, held in New Orleans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second runner-up was Miss Dominican Republic, Andreina Martinez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Q&amp;A at the last stage of the competition for the three finalists, Gabriel was asked how she would work to demonstrate Miss Universe is \u201can empowering and progressive organization\u201d if she were to win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI would use it to be a transformational leader,\u201d she responded, citing her work using recycled materials in her fashion design and teaching sewing to survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is so important to invest in others, invest in our community and use your unique talent to make a difference,\u201d Gabriel continued. \u201cWe all have something special, and when we plant those seeds to other people in our life, we transform them and we use that as a vehicle for change.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Miss Universe, Gabriel is a former high school volleyball player and graduate of the University of North Texas.
