Three Lakeland Police Department are accused of punching a man at a traffic stop have been placed on modified duty because of new details.<\/p>\n\n\n
Lakeland Police Chief Sam Taylor made a statement Wednesday evening saying he has been provided with additional information on the Dec. 18 arrest of Antwan Glover in the ongoing investigation into the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
LPD’s Street Crimes Unit had pulled Glover over in the 400 block of West 9th Street for not wearing his seatbelt, and officers said they saw marijuana in the car and met resistance when they tried to detain him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\nTwo videos posted to Facebook of Glover’s arrest went viral, raising questions about what appeared to be an officer punching Glover in the head and upper torso.<\/p>\n\n\n\nLPD launched an internal investigation into the arrest after the media publicized the videos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n“When this new information is considered along with the previously known facts of this case, and after consulting with the City Manager Shawn Sherrouse, we have decided it is prudent to place Detective Dillon Cornn and Officers Anton Jefferson and Jason McCain on a modified duty status effective immediately,” LPD Chief Sam Taylor said.<\/p>\n\n\n\nTaylor said the “modified duty status” means the officers will have limited contact with the public and are restricted from working extra duty details.
