{"id":29121,"date":"2023-01-19T20:14:29","date_gmt":"2023-01-20T01:14:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=29121"},"modified":"2023-01-19T20:14:34","modified_gmt":"2023-01-20T01:14:34","slug":"black-live-matters-restoration-polk-is-calling-for-lakeland-police-department-and-its-officers-to-be-held-accountable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2023\/01\/19\/black-live-matters-restoration-polk-is-calling-for-lakeland-police-department-and-its-officers-to-be-held-accountable\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Live Matters Restoration Polk is calling for Lakeland Police Department and its officers to be held accountable"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Black Live Matters Restoration Polk Inc. leaders say that during the past month, four Lakeland residents have come forward with videos demonstrating a \u201cpattern of violent behavior\u201d by Lakeland PD officers.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"391\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" src=\"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/soto.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29122\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/soto.png 480w, https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/soto-300x244.png 300w\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Carl Soto, Black Live Matters Restoration Polk Inc. co-founder and vice president<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carl Soto, Black Live Matters Restoration Polk Inc. co-founder and vice president, said there&nbsp;was a meeting with Lakeland Police Chief Sam Taylor and Assistant Chief Marvin Tarver in which he shared several videos displaying the conduct&nbsp;of Detective Dillon Cornn and Officers Jason McCain and Anton Jefferson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These officers are members of the department\u2019s Street Crimes Unit, and all three were involved in a December arrest captured on video that appeared to show a suspect being punched on the ground. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1280\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 720 \/ 1280;\" width=\"720\" controls src=\"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/321443080_132742066301891_5810382766530723676_n-1.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The officers are under active\u00a0investigation after the Dec. 18 arrest of Antwan Glover, who was detained for allegedly not wearing a seatbelt, then the officers\u00a0smelled marijuana from his car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two videos posted to Facebook of Glover\u2019s arrest went viral, showing what appeared to be an officer punching Glover in the head and upper torso.<\/p>\n\n\n        \n        <div class=\"embedpress-gutenberg-wrapper source-provider-Youtube aligncenter ep-clear   ep-content-protection-disabled inline\" id=\"\" data-embed-type=\"Youtube \">\n            <div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper \">\n                <div id=\"ep-gutenberg-content-\" class=\"ep-gutenberg-content\">\n                    <div >\n                        <div class=\"ep-embed-content-wraper preset-default insta-grid ep-google-photos-carousel\"\n                            style=\"max-width:600px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\"                                                                                                                >\n\n                            <div class=\"ose-youtube ose-uid-4b459d51f62079fb08b70865a11a7ec6 ose-embedpress-responsive\" style=\"width:600px;
