Polk State College students were told to shelter in place on Friday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An alert\u00a0posted to the college\u2019s Facebook page\u00a0<\/a>at 9:30 a.m. said the shelter-in-place was ordered due to \u201cindividuals possibly armed near campus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The college gave the \u201call clear\u201d to the Lakeland campus at 10:15 a.m<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe alert for Polk State College has been lifted. You may resume your normal activities,\u201d the college wrote on\u00a0its Facebook page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Polk County Sheriff\u2019s Office said no weapons were found when deputies searched the campus and its parking lots. After speaking with the witness who reported the incident, deputies determined what the caller saw was likely a toy \u2018gun\u2019 that fires Orbeez-style water beads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will continue to look into the incident, but there is no indication that a firearm was discharged or displayed,\u201d the sheriff\u2019s office said<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
