Ron DeSantis\u00a0opened the\u00a02023 legislative session\u00a0Tuesday by declaring that while he has pushed\u00a0Florida onto\u00a0the controversial, conservative ground\u00a0over the past four years, he is determined\u00a0to shift the state even further right in the coming weeks.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking to a House chamber crowded with lawmakers \u2013 DeSantis&#8217; State of the State address was structured to echo far beyond the state Capitol, in advance of his expected bid for the Republican presidential nomination.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe find ourselves in Florida on the front lines in the battle for freedom,\u201d DeSantis said in his 30-minute speech. \u201cTogether, we have made Florida the nation\u2019s most desired destination and we have produced historic results.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After running through highlights of his first term \u2013 fighting COVID-19 vaccine mandates, pushing parental rights in schools, and blunting migrants from staying in the state \u2013 DeSantis pledged that more is to come.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNow\u2019s not the time to rest on our laurels. We have the opportunity and indeed the responsibility, to swing for the fences,\u201d he said, telling&nbsp;the Republican-controlled Legislature, \u201cDon\u2019t worry about the chattering class.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI can promise you this, you ain\u2019t seen nothing yet,\u201d the governor concluded.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The governor\u2019s office set up a video camera in the House press gallery Tuesday to capture DeSantis\u2019 State of the State address, possibly&nbsp;for future campaign purposes. He\u2019s also been touring the nation in recent days promoting his new book, a political memoir titled, \u201cThe Courage to Be Free: Florida\u2019s Blueprint for America\u2019s Revival.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DeSantis\u2019 formal kick-off for his bid for the Republican presidential nomination is expected sometime after lawmakers leave Tallahassee.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.
