{"id":30957,"date":"2023-03-08T17:02:54","date_gmt":"2023-03-08T22:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=30957"},"modified":"2023-03-08T17:02:59","modified_gmt":"2023-03-08T22:02:59","slug":"polk-bocc-statement-regarding-lrhs-4-million-dollar-settlement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2023\/03\/08\/polk-bocc-statement-regarding-lrhs-4-million-dollar-settlement\/","title":{"rendered":"Polk BoCC statement regarding LRH&#8217;s $4 million dollar settlement"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On March 3, 2023, the Polk County government learned Lakeland Regional Health (LRH) agreed to a financial settlement with the Department of Justice (DOJ).\u00a0The DOJ news release read in part about allegations that LRH made impermissible donations to Polk County under the Medicaid program during 2014-2015.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"160\" height=\"207\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/download-3.jpg?resize=160%2C207&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30958\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Board Chairman George Lindsey.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhile DOJ\u2019s statement references \u2018non-bona fide donations\u2019 made to Polk County, rest assured the county received no such donations, and there are no implications of any inappropriate actions on the part of Polk County,\u201d said Board Chairman George Lindsey. \u201cThe role of the county was simply to send local matching funds to the State of Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) as required for the purpose of increasing the provision of health services for the Medicaid, uninsured and underinsured population.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AHCA then applied both county and state matching funds to acquire federal funds that were sent directly back to Lakeland Regional Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFurther during the period in question, the county was audited by an outside agency that showed Polk County was compliant with Federal Laws, State Statute and local ordinances,\u201d said Lindsey. \u201cThe Board of County Commissioners\u2019 continues to ensure the integrity of the expenditure of taxpayer funds while providing the best possible services to our residents.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On March 3, 2023, the Polk County government learned Lakeland Regional Health (LRH) agreed to a financial settlement with the Department of Justice (DOJ).\u00a0The DOJ news release read in part&hellip;
