The City of Lakeland has teamed up with the Florida Department of Transportation with an event called \u201cBike Then Work\u201d.  This bike ride before work will take place on Friday, October 25th starting at 7:30 a.m. The event is part of Mobility Weak, a statewide initiative happening October 25th \u2013 November 1st.  Those wanting to participate are encouraged to visit CityofLakelandBikeThenWork.eventbrite.com<\/a> to register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mobility Week is an annual collection of outreach events intended to bring attention to safe multimodal transportation choices.  During Mobility Week, cities, counties, and transportation partner agencies host events to promote transportation choices, highlight transportation achievements and roll out new initiatives or policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Bike Then Work event will give the Lakeland community an opportunity to enjoy a short ride that shows off the Lake-to-Lake Bikeway and other bike friendly routs in Downtown,\u201d said Chuck Barmby Transportation & Development Review Manager. \u201cThe event will also include some time for fellowship and coffee as we get ready on the morning. We will have a safety briefing on rules of the road and FDOT will be on hand promoting their Commute Connector program.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bike Then Work event will have participants meet in downtown Lakeland in Lot D on the north side of Mitchell\u2019s Coffee Shop on Kentucky Avenue.  The ride registration and networking will start at 7:30 a.m. with a safety\/stretching session at 7:50 a.m.  The ride will start promptly at 8 a.m. and end around 8:30 a.m. in the same place the ride started. The estimated route time is less than 20 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The community is invited to participate for a fun morning to help get the day started.  There is a plan to have a local bike vendor on hand to help those that may need a mechanic to take a look at their trusty steed before the feet hit the pedals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mobility Week encourages Floridians to try a new mode of transportation to commute, shop and recreate. You might discover that you enjoy the extra exercise, meeting new people and saving money on fuel while you avoid sitting behind the wheel. Ride the bus or train to work. Walk or bike with your kids to the park. Form a bicycle or walking group to take your kids to school. Carpool or vanpool to the office with your coworkers.
