{"id":31764,"date":"2023-04-21T11:22:08","date_gmt":"2023-04-21T15:22:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=31764"},"modified":"2023-04-21T11:22:12","modified_gmt":"2023-04-21T15:22:12","slug":"facebook-users-can-apply-for-their-portion-of-a-725-million-lawsuit-settlement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2023\/04\/21\/facebook-users-can-apply-for-their-portion-of-a-725-million-lawsuit-settlement\/","title":{"rendered":"Facebook users can apply for their portion of a $725 million lawsuit settlement"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Facebook users can now apply for their share of a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/12\/23\/1145303268\/facebook-meta-cambridge-analytica-privacy-settlement\">$725 million privacy lawsuit settlement<\/a>&nbsp;if they had accounts from May 2007 to December 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"675\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/ap23109660238212-7a51b187a786161b7e94c28d2ea0471799a2ee94-s900-c85.webp?resize=900%2C675&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31765\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Facebook&#8217;s parent company, Meta, is doling out the payments to settle a lawsuit alleging it allowed Cambridge Analytica, a former British political consulting firm used by the 2016 Donald Trump presidential campaign, to access about 87 million users&#8217; personal information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To apply for the funds, people can<a href=\"https:\/\/facebookuserprivacysettlement.com\/#submit-claim\">&nbsp;apply online<\/a>&nbsp;or by mailing their forms by Aug. 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The form requires you to input your name, address, contact information, birthday, Facebook handle and payment information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2018, Cambridge Analytica allegedly paid Facebook developers for user data, which was then used to target voters in the 2016 election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the scandal surfaced, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg fielded questions from members of the U.S. Congress, who accused him of failing to protect the data.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Facebook users can now apply for their share of a&nbsp;$725 million privacy lawsuit settlement&nbsp;if they had accounts from May 2007 to December 2022.
