This is a 117% increase over fiscal year 2021-22.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/5ece93d618520.webp?resize=257%2C258&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32232\" width=\"257\" height=\"258\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPolk County\u2019s staff members have done a great job securing assistance for Polk\u2019s residents,\u201d said Polk County Commissioner Martha Santiago. \u201cThese funds are used to aid people facing challenges. The county is focused on increasing the behavioral health and mental wellness assistance options for Polk County\u2019s medically vulnerable residents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Polk\u2019s behavioral health and mental wellness funding comes from four sources:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A voter-approved half-cent sales tax accounts for $13 million of this year\u2019s budget.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Federal and state funding makes up for $1.7 million.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Polk has received more than $4 million in opioid settlement funding to date, with $1 million budgeted for this fiscal year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Trust Fund accounts for $22,400.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The half-cent sales tax funding enables Polk County\u2019s Indigent Health Care services to administer a local healthcare safety net program. Grants from the federal and state governments allow for an expansion of behavioral health services. The opioid dollars, meanwhile, will be spent on opioid abatement, including prevention efforts, treatment and recovery services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Behavioral health and mental wellness services are available a little or no cost for qualified Polk County residents. These services include visits with professional therapists and treatment programs for substance use disorder.
