{"id":33666,"date":"2023-07-14T16:21:05","date_gmt":"2023-07-14T20:21:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=33666"},"modified":"2023-07-14T16:21:10","modified_gmt":"2023-07-14T20:21:10","slug":"polk-county-buys-land-just-north-of-bartow-to-replace-other-fire-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2023\/07\/14\/polk-county-buys-land-just-north-of-bartow-to-replace-other-fire-station\/","title":{"rendered":"Polk County buys land just north of Bartow to replace other fire station"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A four-acre site along Smith Lane near U.S. 98 north of Bartow was bought&nbsp;for a fire station&nbsp;by the Polk County Commission on Tuesday, part of the county&#8217;s plan to replace the current Highland City fire station within the next two years.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"660\" height=\"441\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/c498ea83-1ec6-443a-ba24-c41557b23498-New_Highland_City_station.webp?resize=660%2C441&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33667\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commissioners unanimously agreed to purchase the land for $475,000 from Lakeland Regional Health Systems Inc. during a board meeting at the County Administration Building in Bartow. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The site on Smith Lane is a pasture just south of Spessard Holland Elementary School and the short lane is connected by E.F. Griffin Road to the west and U.S. 98 to the east. The Cedar Ridge Road cul-de-sac off E.F. Griffin Road is several acres away from the property\u2019s southern border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new fire station would sit roughly a quarter mile away from U.S. 98.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new land in unincorporated Bartow is already zoned for institutional use.
