{"id":33909,"date":"2023-07-21T16:18:58","date_gmt":"2023-07-21T20:18:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=33909"},"modified":"2023-07-21T16:19:02","modified_gmt":"2023-07-21T20:19:02","slug":"polk-theatre-in-lakeland-remains-closed-as-repairs-continue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2023\/07\/21\/polk-theatre-in-lakeland-remains-closed-as-repairs-continue\/","title":{"rendered":"Polk Theatre in Lakeland remains closed as repairs continue"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.polktheatre.org\/\">Polk Theatre<\/a> in Lakeland&nbsp;continues to be closed for repair work following an underground pipe rupture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" src=\"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/PolkFL.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33910\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/PolkFL.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/PolkFL-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/PolkFL-768x512.jpg 768w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The management first announced on July 9 that the theater was suspending planned screenings, saying that a broken pipe under the orchestra seats center section had caused flooding in the basement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An update posted Thursday on the theater\u2019s Facebook page said, \u201cWe have located the leak and its deep beneath the theater floor, so we\u2019ll have to drill a bit, and dig a bit, but we\u2019ll get there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The announcement did not give a date for reopening, and the staff could not be reached Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The notice said that these films will be rescheduled: \u201cDon\u2019t Tell Mom the Babysitter Is Dead\u201d; \u201cTo Have and Have Not\u201d; \u201cSalvador Dali: In Search of Immortality\u201d; \u201cSan Andreas\u201d; \u201cDriving Miss Daisy\u201d; \u201cMy Fair Lady\u201d; and \u201cThe Suicide Squad.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Polk Theatre opened in the late 1920s and is one of few atmospheric theaters still in operation as a movie venue in Florida.
