On August 14, 2023, at 8:46 p.m., officers responded to the Night Owl Urgent Care, 3240 South Florida Avenue, to a call of a juvenile male (age 14) who was shot in the leg. When officers arrived, they learned the juvenile was in the care of Katlynn Briley Mohon (age 33) of Moncks Corner, South Carolina. Mohon was traveling from Orlando to Clearwater in the area of Interstate 4, east of the Polk Parkway when the juvenile was able to access a loaded firearm in the vehicle and accidentally shot himself in the shin of his right leg. Mohon drove the juvenile to Night Owl for treatment. Medical professionals contacted law enforcement, and because of his age, EMS was requested to transport the minor to Tampa General Hospital for treatment. The victim was reportedly in stable condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Detectives were also called to the scene, and upon further investigation, it was learned there were a total of three juveniles in the vehicle (age 16 and two, age 14) when the shooting occurred. The minors were not Mohon’s children but were entrusted to her care. Two handguns were in the vehicle’s passenger area, along with 32 grams of cocaine and 96 grams of Marijuana. Mohon was charged with Trafficking in Cocaine, Possession of Cannabis Over 20 grams, Culpable Negligence Inflicting Actual Harm, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
