Floridians have a complicated relationship with hurricanes, one mixed with comedic coping and a justifiable fear of another natural disaster on the horizon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One way some people would make light of the serious threat hurricanes pose is through Publix\u2019s hurricane-themed cakes, or \u201churricakes\u201d as some people call them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cakes, as seen in an X post from December 2022<\/a>, would have messages like \u201cGo Away\u201d or \u201cLeave Florida Alone,\u201d showing Floridians\u2019 disdain for the yearly weather events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, due to sensitivity concerns, Publix is no longer baking hurricane-themed cakes for Florida customers, especially in light of the numerous deaths caused by Hurricane Ian and Hurricane Nicole last fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, Publix said while they enjoy \u201cfinding ways to delight them with their favorite Publix items as they prepare for uncertainty,\u201d the cakes will not be made anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Per company policy, the hurricakes can no longer be made due to them making light of these natural disasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People on social media criticized the decision, saying that the cakes are just a form of \u201cgallows humor\u201d and that now they can\u2019t have them at their hurricane parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
