Polk State College and its collegiate high schools will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, and remain closed through Wednesday, August 30, due to Tropical Storm Idalia. The College is expected to reopen on Thursday, August 31. Polk State\u2019s Emergency Management Team continues to meet and will determine whether an extension of the closure is needed by Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students should communicate with their instructors, check Canvas, and their my.polk.edu<\/a> email accounts for updates on classes and assignments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

College officials also encourage students, faculty, and staff to ensure their contact information in Passport <\/a>is up to date to receive emergency alerts from Polk State. Students should check under \u201cMy Details\u201d and employees should check under \u201cPersonal\u201d and \u201cChange Contact Info.\u201d Numbers entered in the \u201cCellular Number\u201d field in the \u201cPersonal Information\u201d section will be used for emergency voice and text messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, individuals are asked to review information on the Polk County Emergency Management<\/a> website regarding hurricane preparedness, emergency and special needs shelters, and more. Please note that Polk County\u2019s sandbag fill sites<\/a> are open Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
