On Tuesday, Oct. 8<\/a>, senior accounting and math major Dalton Beitel was found unresponsive in his Lake Hollingsworth apartment by his roommates, according to Dean of Students Mike Crawford.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cause of Beitel\u2019s death is still unknown at this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director of Campus Safety Eric Rauch told a gathering of the campus community that there were no signs of foul play and \u201csimply put: Dalton died of what appears to be a natural death.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beitel was from Titusville, Fla. and was an active member of the Intramural program through the Wellness Center and also ran in his free time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDalton was a bright light who touched everyone\u2019s lives that he came in contact with,\u201d junior Emilea Wilson said. \u201cHe was a hard worker \u2013 both in the classroom and in Minecraft \u2013 and he loved his friends and family tremendously.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Association of Campus Entertainment (ACE) canceled their events for the week along with all intramural games being canceled for the night of Oct. 8.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDalton liked to play soccer intramurals, ran the lake every day, and he could be seen many nights in Rinker studying with classmates for his math tests,\u201d Wilson said. \u201cHe left an impact on so many and will be missed so much. He will live on in the hearts of all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A gathering was held on Wednesday, Oct. 9 in the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel to remember and honor the life of Beitel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will always remember him and we will always wonder about the potential about what might have been, and that\u2019s okay,\u201d President Anne B. Kerr said during the gathering on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of the Florida Southern community are able to reach out to the FSC Counseling Center along with Chaplin Timothy Wright to receive \u201ccompassionate support.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
