As Ron DeSantis struggles to make headway with his 2024 presidential campaign, one of his biggest financial backers is making clear that the Florida governor shouldn\u2019t count on his help going forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNBC\u00a0previewed\u00a0an upcoming interview between\u00a0Sara Eisen\u00a0and Citadel CEO\u00a0Ken Griffin, a Republican mega-donor who gave $5 million to a PAC that supported DeSantis last year during his reelection effort. Amid DeSantis\u2019\u00a0public appeal struggles,\u00a0donor hemorrhaging, and\u00a0campaign overhauls, Griffin hinted that he won\u2019t throw DeSantis a life raft \u2014 citing his displeasure with the broader political conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m still on the sidelines as to who to support in this election cycle,\u201d said Griffin. \u201cLook, if I had my dream, we\u2019d have a great Republican candidate in the primary who was younger, of a different generation, with a different tone for America. And we\u2019d have a younger person on the Democratic side in the primary, who would have his message for our country\u2026 We\u2019d have a debate around ideas principles and policies to make this a great nation. We\u2019re not having that dialogue right now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Griffin praised DeSantis\u2019 \u201cphenomenal\u201d performance as governor, he assessed that the last few months have been below that standard, and now \u201cI don\u2019t know his strategy.\u201d According to Griffin, part of this stems from DeSantis\u2019 legal war with Disney over the alleged, punitive actions he has taken against the company for criticizing him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe ongoing battle with Disney, I think, is pointless. It doesn\u2019t reflect well on the ethos of Florida,\u201d Griffin said. \u201cIt\u2019s not clear to me what voter base he is intending to appeal to.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNBC notes that as long as Griffin stays out of the race, Donald Trump\u2019s primary lead is likely to grow if DeSantis doesn\u2019t have the financial resources to fuel their campaign rivalry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
