This means a Lakeland homeowner with an assessed property value of $150,000 will pay the city approximately $814.50 in taxes for the upcoming year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2024 budget has over $9.8 million in new expenditures, addressing issues in seven strategic areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Infrastructure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Economic development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Affordable housing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>City Hall communications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parks and recreation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Public safety issues<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Roughly $1.36 million has been set aside to build more sidewalks and trails to improve interconnectivity for pedestrians and bicyclists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">$1 million set aside in next year&#8217;s budget by the commission to help support affordable housing initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/download-7.jpg?resize=389%2C218&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36131\" style=\"width:389px;height:218px\" width=\"389\" height=\"218\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lakeland has designated about $623,000 to hire 12 personnel for the Lakeland Fire Department over the course of the next year. The city also has designated $230,000 to sponsor individuals interested in becoming firefighters or police officers into academies for training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The city generally aims to keep 45 to 60 days of operating costs in reserve three years out in 2026, based on a series of conservative predictions about property growth.
