The bread display rack at a\u00a0Davie Publix\u2019s bakery\u00a0got taken out of business Friday and the problem could threaten Publix\u2019s ability to receive new food for a time in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Running roaches were among the few violations spotted by a Florida Department of Agriculture inspector, but they were enough for the Publix at 4701 S. University Dr. to get \u201cRe-Inspection Required,\u201d the worst result for an Ag Department inspection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ag Department inspectors, who inspect packaged food sellers from bookstores to supermarkets, can\u2019t completely close down an establishment the way restaurant inspectors from a different state agency can. What they can do is put Stop-Use Orders on equipment or areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And, that\u2019s what Inspector Pedro Llanos did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Llanos noted a \u201cheavy accumulation of ice\u201d on the walk-in cooler\u2019s condenser unit in the meat area. He let an employee remove the offending \u201cfly glue stick hanging over the three-compartment sink.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But when he \u201cobserved multiple living roaches on the bread rack between the bakery and deli wall,\u201d Llanos fired a Stop-Use Order on the retail bakery\u2019s bread display. A Stop-Use Order\u2019s function is defined by the name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe affected storage areas must be completely cleared of all merchandise, cleaned and sanitized by the next inspection,\u201d the inspection said. \u201cNo other merchandise may be added to the storage area or a Broken Stop-Use will be issued.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps even worse would be another sighting of \u201cmultiple living roaches\u201d on the re-inspection, which will take place on or before Oct. 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf evidence of pest infestation is observed on the next inspection, a Stop-Use Order will be issued on all receiving areas of the establishment and the establishment will no longer be allowed to receive additional food items.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
