Polk County officials announced Thursday that they made more than 200 human trafficking-related arrests during a weeklong sting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials said the operation, called \u201cOperation Traffic Stop 2,\u201d resulted in 219 arrests as well as the identification of 21 human trafficking victims.<\/p>\n\n\n

Freddy Escalona, DOB 9\/6\/1993, of Chicago, Illinois<\/strong>, was charged with Human Trafficking (F1), and Deriving Proceeds from Prostitution (F2). Escalona loaned a victim money to fix her car and made her prostitute herself to pay back the money. He drove the victim to the undercover location, and was taken into custody. He told detectives that he had \u201cseveral females that he worked\u201d who paid him to transport them and \u201ckeep them safe.\u201d The investigation is ongoing, and further charges are pending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maria Guzman, DOB 5\/29\/1987, of Orlando<\/strong>, was charged with Human Trafficking (F1), and Deriving Proceeds. Guzman trafficked two victims from a hotel in Orlando. She set up their \u201cdates\u201d and profited from the money they made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were 83 suspects arrested for soliciting a prostitute and traveling to the undercover location to negotiate to have sex in exchange for money; 17 other suspects were arrested, and of those, 5 were either deriving proceeds from prostitution or aiding and abetting prostitutes, and 8 drove the prostitutes to the undercover location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Detectives charged a total of 44 felonies and 242 misdemeanors during the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNot only did we arrest more suspects during this single operation than we have ever arrested before, we identified 21 human trafficking victims; during a similar operation in February, we identified 24 victims. That\u2019s 45 victims we were able to identify this year. The valuable relationships that we have with the social services organizations who join us in these operations make it possible for these women to get help and be emancipated from this way of life.\u201d<\/em> \u2013 Grady Judd, Sheriff<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some interesting notes from the operation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • 35 of the arrested are suspected of being in the country illegally and three of those were identified as victims of human trafficking. Those who are here illegally are from six different countries: Cuba, Chile, Venezuela, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, and the Bahamas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 41 suspects told detectives they are married.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 13 suspects told detectives they receive government assistance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 42 suspects brought illegal drugs to the location: detectives seized fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Two of the suspects brought firearms to the undercover location.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 18 suspects were from other states: Alabama, California, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The oldest person arrested is 76 years old (Frank Bydairk), while the youngest is 18 years old (Latrice Vilsaint).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
