Update: <\/strong>Sixteen cars and a tractor-trailer were involved in a crash Thursday evening in Polk County, according to the Lake Wales Police Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crash happened at about 6:30 p.m. in the area of Highway 27 and Chalet Suzanne Road in Lake Wales when the driver of a Chrysler 200 cut in front of a tractor-trailer, police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tractor-trailer driver lost control after hitting the Chrysler, crossed the median and hit a bunch of cars in the southbound lanes that were stopped at a red light, according to police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Multiple people were injured in the crash, three of which had to be flown to hospitals, police said. At least one person\u2019s injuries may be life-threatening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The intersection where the crash happened will remain closed for an extended period of time, according to police. Drivers are asked to find alternate routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Polk County Fire Rescue, Lake Wales Fire Department & Lake Wales Police are working on a crash on Hwy 27 & Chalet Suzanne Rd. The crash occurred at 6:35 p.m. A total of 13 fire and ambulance crews were on the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n

A total of 3 Helicopters have been requested for the scene. One has landed and left transporting a patient. A second just landed around 7:15 p.m. A 3rd helicopter has a 20-minute estimated time of arrival<\/p>\n\n\n \n
