Florida Southern College women’s soccer ended a scoring\ndrought that spanned more than five matches as they finished in a 1-1\ndouble-overtime draw with Florida Tech. The Mocs (3-5-2, 0-3-2 SSC) picked up\nanother point in the Sunshine State Conference standings. The Panthers (2-7-2,\n0-4-1) opened the scoring late in the first half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HOW IT HAPPENED<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Florida Southern looked to get on the board early as Cali Larson<\/a> would fire off a shot just 38 seconds into\nthe match. Alexa Moberley<\/a>, who returned from injury in the Lynn match\nand made her first start of the season, recorded a shot in the fifth minute\nthat sailed over the goal. It would take Florida Tech more than 17 minutes to\nrecord a shot as Maria Munoz sent a ball over the top of the goal. Amy Volk<\/a> and Rachel Peck<\/a> would tack on a pair of shots for the Mocs\nin a two-minute span, both shots were off target. After getting called for\noffsides, the Panthers would quickly get the ball back and travel down the\nfield as Monica Zabian fired off a shot that slipped past a diving Jenny Staten<\/a> to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage in\nthe 36th minute. In the 45th minute, Kaitlyn Svopa<\/a> would record her first shot on the night\nas she sent a ball right at Maria Sanchez Recuero for the games first save.\nFlorida Southern would head to the halftime break down 1-0. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Just as they opened the game with the first shot the Mocs\nopened the second half with a shot on goal as Rachel Peck<\/a> recorded her team-leading third goal of\nthe season to even the score at 1-1 in the 52nd minute. Staten made her first\nof two saves on the night as she stopped a shot off the foot of Brittany Etrick\nin the 60th minute. Florida Tech attempted to take back the lead in the 75th\nminute as they fired off a pair of shots, the second shot would prove to be the\nsecond and final save of the night for Staten. The Mocs took the ball back to\nthe other end of the pitch as Sanchez Recuero made saves off shots from Amy Volk<\/a> and Larson. After Volk sent a shot wide right\nof the goal, Kailin Wiley<\/a> nearly gave the Mocs a lead she Sanchez\nRecuero made a key save for the Panthers to keep the match knotted at\n1-1. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Unlike the previous two halves, the Panthers recorded the\nfirst shot of the first overtime period off the foot of Veronica Thordardottir\nin the 92nd minute. Nearly a minute later, Volk fired off another shot, she\nwould finish the match with a match leading five shots on the evening. Less\nthan a minute after entering the match, Caitlyn Lowery<\/a> fired off her only shot of the night\njust wide right of the goal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf For the second consecutive match, the Mocs would head to a\nsecond overtime. Florida Southern would record a pair of shots in the final 10\nminutes of the match. Just five seconds after a Madison Hald<\/a> fired off a shot Rachel Peck<\/a> nearly ended the match in the 103rd minute\nbut Sanchez Recuero was right there to make the save and keep the match knotted\nat 1-1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

INSIDE THE NUMBERS<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf The Mocs defense helped keep the limit the opposition to\nsingle-digit shots as Staten made just two saves on the evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf For the fourth time, this season the Mocs have held the\nopposition to single-digit shots. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Florida Southern outshot Florida Tech, 16-8. The Mocs\ntotaled seven corner kicks to four by the Panthers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Peck’s goal in the 52nd minute marked the first goal for\nthe Mocs since Larson scored in the 27th minute of a 2-0 victory at Delta State\n(Sept. 15). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf The Moccasins are now 7-13-4 all-time against the\nPanthers, including a 4-5-1 mark in Lakeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Florida Southern will host Barry (Oct. 19) in the\npenultimate home match for the Mocs. FSC will honor is seniors prior to the\nmatch against Eckerd (Oct. 23) and then hit the road to close out the regular\nseason with matches at Embry-Riddle (Oct. 30) and Saint Leo (Nov. 2) Florida\nSouthern and Tampa will make up the postponed match in Tampa at a date yet to\nbe announced. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
