Forbes released its 2023 list of the 400 richest Americans this week, and once again, Floridians featured prominently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forty-six Florida residents made this year’s Forbes ranking of the 400 wealthiest Americans<\/a>, the third most of any state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The richest person in Florida is Ken Griffin, who relocated from Illinois earlier this year. Let’s take a quick look at the ten wealthiest people in Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Top 10 Wealthiest Floridians<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below are the top ten wealthiest people in Florida, with their net worth, where they live, and how they have made their fortune.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  2. Thomas Petterfy, Palm Beach. $29.7 billion. Discount brokerage<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. David Tepper, Palm Beach, $20.6 billion. Hedge funds<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Shahid Khan, Jacksonville, $12.2 billion. Auto parts<\/li>\n\n\n\n

    Philanthropy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    One thing to look at is how generous these people are with their wealth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Forbes tracks the charitable giving<\/a> of every member of The Forbes 400. The report found “the richest people in America are<\/a>, so far, not all that generous. Two-thirds of them have given less than 5% of their wealth away so far; only 11 have donated 20% or more.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The people on the list are given a philanthropy score from 1 to 5 based on their generosity, with five being given to the most generous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Unfortunately, none of the 46 Florida residents who made the list scored a five or even a four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Only three people scored a three out of five- indicating they gave between 5% and 10% of their wealth. They are Daniel Och, Richard Schulze, and Charles. B. Johnson<\/p>\n\n\n\n
