{"id":37235,"date":"2023-10-16T17:11:36","date_gmt":"2023-10-16T21:11:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=37235"},"modified":"2023-10-16T17:11:42","modified_gmt":"2023-10-16T21:11:42","slug":"hca-plans-a-second-emergency-room-in-lakeland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2023\/10\/16\/hca-plans-a-second-emergency-room-in-lakeland\/","title":{"rendered":"HCA plans a second emergency room in Lakeland"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lakeland City Commissioners voted unanimously to approve a major modification to a Planned Unit Development to allow an 11,570-square-foot emergency room to be built at 1075 Carpenters Way.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"299\" height=\"168\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 299px) 100vw, 299px\" src=\"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/download-3.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-37236\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.7797619047619047;width:468px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The site, located at the northeast corner of Carpenters Way and U.S. 98 North, was previously a bank building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We are in essence a self-sufficient ER that&#8217;s placed in the community rather than you coming to a primary hospital,&#8221; said Gary Ball, HCA&#8217;s emergency manager at Brandon Regional Hospital, at a prior public presentation. &#8220;The benefit of this being more in your community reduces EMS transport time to our facility, getting you to care faster.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new free-standing emergency building is proposed to be roughly 11,570 square feet and one story. There will also be a covered patient drop-off area along the west side of the building, facing U.S. 98 North.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"566\" height=\"323\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 566px) 100vw, 566px\" src=\"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Screenshot-42a-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-37237\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Screenshot-42a-2.png 566w, https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Screenshot-42a-2-300x171.png 300w\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The emergency room will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and offer the same level of care as a traditional emergency room. It will have the capacity to provide acute care including taking CT scans and X-rays, blood work, and administering life-saving medications for heart attacks, strokes, and sepsis. The facility will be staffed by an ER physician with a combination of paramedics and nurses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ball said approximately 95% of patients arriving via ambulance to HCA&#8217;s South Lakeland site were non-emergencies.
