The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District One plans to start safety improvements on State Road (SR) 33, or Lakeland Hills Boulevard, between North Iowa Avenue and Parkview Place in Lakeland. The plan includes a raised grass median and concrete traffic separators to replace the existing two-way, left turn lane on SR 33 within the project area. The goal is to reduce accidents.<\/p>\n\n\n

Access to several side streets will be altered to improve safety. On North Iowa Avenue, drivers will only be allowed to make right turns into and out of the avenue, with left turns being banned. This change is designed to control traffic flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

East Garden Street will have a full median opening with dedicated left turn lanes. It will let drivers turn in either direction, increasing accessibility while maintaining safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buena Vista Street will see changes similar to North Iowa Avenue. Drivers will only be able to make right turns into and out of the street, with left turns banned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On El Paseo, drivers will be able to turn right or left into the street and right out of the street, but left turns out will be banned.
