But hiding our head in the sand will not change the numbers or help the animals. The public needs to look at these statistics and take responsibility to do better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8,539 animals were taken in as confiscations or as strays during the first 9 months of 2023 but only 857 animals were reunited with their families. That’s just 10% reunited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So this means that 90% of people who lost an animal in the first 9 months of 2023 never tried to find their family member? Were the costs to reclaim the animal too high so people just walked away? Or did people not even go looking for their animal, or not know where to go to look? Even if 2000 of these animals were Community Cats with no owner of record, what about the other 6539 animals?? Where are the owners?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first 9 months of 2023, in Polk County Florida, 361 animals died in the custody of Polk County Animal Control, 322 escaped the facility, and 3,577 were intentionally killed<\/strong>. 4,064 were adopted into homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
