Here\u2019s how to check"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The state said it returned more than $36 million in unclaimed property to Floridians during the month of October.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"580\" height=\"326\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-4.jpeg?resize=580%2C326&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-38427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-4.jpeg?w=580&amp;ssl=1 580w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-4.jpeg?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And there\u2019s a lot more waiting to be spoken for, according to&nbsp;Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFlorida currently has unclaimed property accounts with a total value of nearly $2.7 billion just waiting to be claimed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The state defines \u201cunclaimed property\u201d as a financial asset that is unknown or lost, or has been left inactive, unclaimed or abandoned by its owner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most common types of unclaimed property are dormant bank accounts, unclaimed insurance proceeds, stocks, dividends, uncashed checks, deposits, credit balances and refunds, the Florida Department of Financial Services said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In October, Patronis said Orlando ranked second out of Florida\u2019s metro regions for the most unclaimed property returned to residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">October 2023 Unclaimed Property Returns by Region:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Miami \u2013 $9.7 Million<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Orlando \u2013 $7.7 Million<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tampa\/St. Pete \u2013 $7.4 Million<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>West Palm Beach \u2013 $4.6 Million<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jacksonville \u2013 $2.2 Million<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fort Myers\/Naples \u2013 $1.6 Million<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pensacola \u2013 $887,608<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tallahassee \u2013 $866,319<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gainesville \u2013 $654,166<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Panama City \u2013 $503,890<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Patronis said it\u2019s an ideal time of year to check the state\u2019s database for yourself, your family and even your friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cTreat yourself this holiday season and claim your unclaimed property today!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To check if you have unclaimed property,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fltreasurehunt.gov\/\">click here.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The state said it returned more than $36 million in unclaimed property to Floridians during the month of October.
